Hello, all you prospective students!
This week, on Friday and Saturday, the Theatrical Outreach Program is putting on a production of George Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion" in Collins Auditorium!
Wait a second, "Theatrical Outreach Program"? What is that?
The Theatrical Outreach Program-- affectionately referred to as TOP-- is an organization here at Fordham whose mission is to abbreviate works of classic theatre (some past highlights include Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar", Moliere's "Tartuffe", and Aristophane's "The Frogs") and then take these productions out to schools in the Bronx community. In doing this, we seek to bring about an appreciation for theatre and a love of play to these students in a way that is educational, positive, and fun. In this way, we have managed to interweave our talents and passions for theatre into something that exemplifies the Jesuit tenets of "Cura Personalis" (care of the whole person) and "Men and Women For and With Others", upon which our University was founded.
That being said, TOP is also an excellent organization to get involved with because the people in it are just incredible. Everyone here has passion, drive, and some of the best senses of humor I've ever encountered. I have done four productions with them (three as an actor and "Pygmalion" as a director) and I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is a unique opportunity to get involved in here at Fordham University!
Just a sense of what we do:
From TOP's "Tartuffe"
From TOP's "Much Ado About Nothing"
Now, ask yourself: Doesn't that look like fun?
