No
matter what mode of transportation used, Fordham students that go to Rose Hill
(like me) are no more than 30 minutes away from the Great White Way. Therefore,
there is no excuse whatsoever to go through your four short years of college
and never immerse yourself into exquisite New York City culture scene and see a
Broadway show. With all of the offers given to college students, snagging cheap
tickets to even the most sought after shows is easier than ever! There
are many ways that college students can obtain discounted theater tickets in
the city (such as at theater box offices, student rush policies, and
lotteries). Once I came to Fordham, however, I learned that there are several
ways Fordham students can obtain tickets to Broadway shows without even leaving
campus!
1.
One of our mega programming organizations on campus, CAB (Campus Activities
Board) hosts monthly ticket lotteries to several Broadway shows. About a week
prior to the lottery, students are informed of the show titles, dates, and
times of the shows CAB will selling tickets to that month. On the day of the
lotto, students present their student IDs in order to receive 1 raffle ticket.
If a student’s number is called, that student can purchase either 1 or 2 show
tickets for the show of their choosing for only $20 each! Don’t forget to wear
your lucky socks to this event!
2.
Many of the residence halls on campus have programs that allow residents to see
Broadway shows. Many integrated learning communitieshave programs where
residents can sign up to see Broadway shows for a little as $15 or $20 each.
When I lived in Queen’s Court my freshman year, I was able to see Hair (one of
my favorites!) In other residence halls such as O’Hare Hall where I have lived
for the past two years, students can sometimes sign up to see shows for free!
Just last week, I saw my first opera, The Barber of Seville, at the
Metropolitan Opera- for free!
Enjoy the show!
