Under a Speculoos Spell: Wafles and Dinges Cart

Imagine tasting something unlike anything you've ever tried in your whole life. An artful blend of sweetness atop a golden brown crispy, yet soft on the inside, wafle. And yes, that's spelled with one 'f'.

Wafles and Dinges was created by Thomas DeGeest to shower New York City with traditional belgian fare. What started out as a single street cart has evolved into a fleet of Wafles and Dinges vans of all sizes: some having permanent locations around the city and others that move (see their twitter to find out where they are next!). The cart has been featured on FoodNetwork's ThrowDown with Bobby Flay, among other notable foodie blogs/networks/magazines/etc.

When you go up to order your treat, you have the option of selecting your wafle base: the brussels wafle (which is the traditional belgian wafle) or the liege wafle (the company claims it is the best-kept belgian secret wafle!). Then you add your dinges, belgium for toppings. The first dinge is free, and the other toppings are just a $1 each! They have a whole array of sweet toppings, from nutella to nuts to fruit. But their claim to fame is the belgium speculoos spread. It tastes like a graham cracker spread, and melts beautifully atop a wafle from the cart. Last time I went, I made a beautiful liege wafle with the delectable speculoos and some walnuts.

Stop imagining and start gathering up your bills because once your a student at FCLC, getting your fill of delicious belgian wafle treats is zero the hassle. The Wafles and Dinges cart resides where the Ram Van picks you up (corner of 60th and columbus) every tuesday--and almost everyday in front of the Time Warner Center by the Whole Foods Entrance. At the cart by the school, you can treat yourself to a free soda with your fordham ID. At all the other locations, you can even coerce the cooks to giving you a free dinge or soda by offering to sing in exchange. Plus, their twitter offers many opportunities for secret codes/discounts, as well as giving you the Wafle advantage of knowing where this cart is at all times.
