Vogue: THE Fashion Magazine

Vogue magazine is viewed as the “fashion bible.” As an intern at a fashion magazine, I must not only have the knowledge of current trend, but should have my own “personality” added to the look. But, looking your best is not the only part of internship at Vogue.

Unlike what many people believe, internships are not glorious as they make it seem in the movies such as “The Devil Wears Prada” or a documentary, “The September Issue.” It requires hard work. I work Wednesday through Friday, and it does get tiring. I have to get up at 7 in the morning in order to be prepared and ready at work at 9 am at 4 Times Square (where the Conde Nast Publication building is located at). As soon as I arrive, I hang my coat and start my work right away. My job requires me to handle designer accessories to less-known accessories from checking in to the closet and checking out back to the PR companies. If there are urgent accessories that need to be in the closet for the editors to look at, or needs to be in a photoshoot, an intern is called to pick it up and follow the procedure.

Working during the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is no joke. More accessories are needed for the photoshoot, senior editors are in and out of the office for appointments, and so, the interns rush things to get it done. Although many people ask me if I do get into Fashion Week because I am an intern at Vogue, the answer is no. I have gone to MBFW but I do it personally, not through Vogue.

I have learned that no internship is glorious as people think. They require serious dedication, and sometimes may take over your life. The earliest I have left the office is 8 pm as interns have to clean the closet, update the look board for the editors, and make sure all the items are packed and shipped for a photoshoot (if there is one).

Let us hope that my interview with the W Magazine goes well! Although it will be the same situation, at least I get to experience something amazing that looks superb on the resume.
