Getting an Internship With Help from Career Services

Many students at Fordham intern during the summer before their junior and senior years, but it is also popular to get an internship for fall and spring semesters during the school year because of how close Fordham is situated to NYC. However, the process to gaining an internship can be quite tedious - creating the perfect resume and cover letter, completing the application, managing a phone interview, and surviving the in-person interview- multiply that process by fifty and it’s a little daunting!
Luckily, Career Services understands this process and is here for step-by-step help! First step - creating the resume and cover letter. Career Services offers one-on-one appointments where students can get their resume and cover letter reviewed. Speaking from personal experience, they offer excellent help and are available quite frequently throughout the week!
Second step – look for opportunities. Career Services hosts bi-yearly career fairs, starting at the beginning of each semester. At the career fairs, students have the opportunity to meet with recruiters and business professionals from several different job sectors including accounting and finance, communications, political science, marketing, management, non-profit, and more! Students have the opportunity to hear about internships, apply for some by submitting their resume to the recruiter, as well as learn about what the represented company is about. Career Services also has an online portal, where companies and third parties can post internship openings at their company. The portal is easy to use, allowing students to make searches, and save internship opportunities to apply for at a later date. It is through this portal that I found several internships in my area of study to apply for! On campus recruiting is also scheduled here. Career Services offer companies the opportunity to recruit Fordham students right on campus. I had the opportunity to interview with Target last spring for a position that was only an hour away from my home.
Third Step – surviving the interview! When you are called in for an interview, Career Services is there again to provide mock interviews and interview tips so that you are a poised and prepared candidate for any job that you wish to attain!
So, no worries! Take a deep breath and relax! Fordham Career Services is an excellent resource that is there to help every step of the way.
