My Birthday Weekend at Fordham!

Fordham's New York City location is ideal for academia, internships, and jobs, but going to college in New York is also perfect for celebrations! Whether you're in Manhattan or the Bronx, Fordham is a great place to gather friends and family for special occasions. This weekend, I celebrated my birthday at Fordham and in Manhattan with my friends and family.

On Saturday, my friends and I took the D-train from Fordham's Rose Hill campus down to Manhattan's Lower East Side for a lovely birthday dinner. Getting to Manhattan from the Bronx is very convenient, which makes it easy for my friends and I to leave campus for work and for fun! My friends and I had so much fun at the restaurant, and I was happy that everyone had fun at my birthday dinner. The friendships I have made during college are amazing, and I am so happy that Fordham connected me with such wonderful people.

On Sunday, my birthday celebration continued closer to my home at Fordham's Rose Hill campus in the Bronx. My family drove to campus from New Jersey, and we went out for a birthday lunch on Arthur Avenue, the Bronx's Little Italy. Arthur Avenue is right across the street from Fordham Rose Hill, and is home to many authentic restaurants, bakeries, and shops. Most of Arthur Avenue's restaurants are Italian, but my family decided to try something new and took me to a Mexican restaurant called Estrellita's. The food was delicious, and the restaurant was only 5 minutes from campus!

Fordham has given me so much over the last three years, and its endless opportunities for work and for fun never disappoint. Celebrating my birthday at Fordham again this year was a great reminder of how lucky and happy I am to attend such an amazing school with so much to see and do. I am so proud to be a Fordham Ram!

Weekend Update

One big happy family

Kaitlyn McWha

This weekend my entire family came to visit me at Fordham to celebrate my brother's birthday. My grandparents, aunt, uncles, and cousins came all the way from Massachusetts to see me at college! After a tour of the campus, we went to Michelangelo's on Arthur Avenue for my brother's birthday dinner. My family loves Fordham, and I was so happy to see all of them!

This Saturday I went into Manhattan to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime on Broadway with my family, and it was amazing. Despite having to brave the rainy weather in the morning, it cleared up by the time we got out of the show, allowing us to walk around and enjoy the city afterwards!

What a great environment to find my inner peace!
In a city where many think that nothing is free, you would be surprised when I tell you that I took and amazing yoga class, in a gorgeous studio in the East Village. Yoga To The People is a yoga studio with only one rule- to find your inner peace. The donation-based studio has multiple locations throughout the city and is open to all levels. I went with a couple of friends over the weekend and was warmly greeted by staff and other yoga students alike. What I loved about this studio was that although it is donation based, they do not pressure you into feeling as though you must give a donation, and they are very appreciative of whatever you can give. I would go back without a doubt; I especially want to try the hot yoga class in Chelsea!

My weekend was spent catching up on some very much needed rest and relaxation on Martyr's lawn and visiting with my family. Being from a close 20 minutes away in Westchester, I feel I have the best of both worlds. While at school, I have a strong sense of independence dorming and being with my friends. However, my family is a short car ride away when I need them...or when I need my dog!

The fun began on Friday night this past weekend when the Fordham football team hosted Lafayette, the defending Patriot League champions, for a game under the lights at Jack Coffey Field at Rose Hill.  The game began competitive, but the Rams really hit their stride in the second quarter and led 31-10 at the half.  Fordham went on to win 42-18, improving to 5-1 on the season!  Also, receiver Tebucky Jones Jr. was featured on the SportsCenter Top 10 with the #1 play of the night.

Weekend Update

One of the best things about Fordham is that if you're having a lazy weekend, like I did, there is so much to appreciate around you. I honestly did not feel much like getting out after a week of hard work, but the little things like waiting in line for one of the caf's amazing weekend omelettes and seeing Keating hit with the perfect rays of a setting sun, did more than enough to brighten the mood. Fordham has a lot of great and impressive things to offer, but it is in the quiet moments that you most appreciate Fordham for its simple wonder.

On Friday evening, my friends and I went to a free event on the rooftop garden at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the Upper East Side. We had an incredible view of Central Park, and we even got to see the sunset behind the skyline! On Saturday we went out to brunch for my friend's 21st birthday. The restaurant was located right by the Hudson River, so we enjoyed a delicious meal with a lovely view.

There are so many opportunities to see the NYC skyline!
