Tuesday Evening at the Highline

Yesterday, my friends and I decided to go to the Chelsea Highline!  After a long day of classes and lectures, we decided we deserved and relaxing evening.  One of the many benefits of attending Fordham University is its proximity to the city.  In just 25 minutes, you can go from being on a beautiful, secluded, green campus, to being in the heart of Manhattan.  Once we arrived in the city, we took the 1 train to Chelsea Highline.  The Highline is a gorgeous walking trail which features spectacular views of the city, modern architecture, and beautiful plants and streams.

Tested out the panorama setting on my phone... success!

After walking along the high line and chatting for a while, we decided to stop along the side to watch the sun set.  It was beautiful!  It made me reflect on how lucky I am to be a Fordham student.  In high school on a random Tuesday night, I would be at home, completing homework and watching Netflix under the covers.  Now, here I am in New York City, watching the sun set and enjoying the city with my best friends.  After watching the sun set, we decided to go out to dinner together!  We went to a delicious restaurant called The Meatball Shop.  They are only located in NYC, so if you are in the area, I highly recommend you check them out.  Here, I had a meatball sub on fresh focaccia bread with a garden salad... yum!  After, we all had one of their signature ice cream sandwiches which was a great ending to the day.

I would call this Tuesday a success!  Although not all of my Tuesday evenings are as fun and eventful as this one was, I am blessed to have the opportunity to go to amazing places with great people when I have free time!

What does Back To School mean for you?

When discussing back to school plans and events for college students, it’s pretty standard to hear about football games, pep rallies, dances, and on campus activities. Back to school for a Fordham Ram, though, is all of that and more.

What I love so much about going to Fordham here at Rose Hill is that we get all of those super college-y fun experiences like basketball games, raffles, school sponsored dinners and events, we also have the subway, metro north and the Ram Van all at our finger tips to take us to Manhattan, one of the most fun places in the world (I am biased, though).

So what did back to school mean for me? Yes, it did mean sporting events and wearing our school colors and buying books and catching up with friends. I think a lot of college kids would give you similar answers such as those across the country. But, back to school for me also meant finding new and super yummy restaurants, getting the best gelato in little Italy, perfecting my skills in hailing cabs, and some of the best museums and street fairs in the world.

Exploring my favorite city!

Sure, you can’t deny that you can get a great education somewhere that isn’t in New York City. But I feel as though my Fordham education is not only fantastic academically on campus, but the element of the city gives me access to outlets and opportunities that my friends at state schools or suburban campuses simply don’t have.

One of my new favorite restaurants, Freemans!

Next weekend I’m going record shopping with my friends in SoHo and then to see a play. What are YOUR weekend plans in college going to be?

Weekend Update: Spring is Here!

Sorry all! This weekend's update is a little belated...but only because this weekend was so busy! We have temperatures in the 70s and everyone enjoyed themselves accordingly. Hopefully the warm weather is really here to stay! Check out what some students did below!

What I really like about Fordham is its location. Being in the heart of NY, students can go around Union Square and just relax--or even hit up a few stores here and there.

When in the city enjoying the beautiful weather this weekend, I came across decorative eggs that are part of NY's Big Egg Hunt. There are over 260 eggs displayed across the 5 boros each designed by a different artist. Everyone is invited to participate in the egg hunt for a chance to win prizes! Later this month all of the eggs will be displayed in Rockefeller Center.

This weekend I went to a French restaurant in SoHo for lunch with some friends.

This weekend I took advantage of the beautiful weather we have been having and went for a run in the New York Botanical Gardens.  The gardens are gorgeous this time of year, and general admission is free with a Fordham ID.

And let us not forget, on Sunday we had our Spring Preview for Admitted Students where we welcomed the future class of 2018 and their families! Temperatures were high and so was enthusiasm. Our fabulous tour guides and ambassadors welcomed thousands of people to campus that day. Always, the day is topped off with a moving message from none other than University President Father McShane. It was a complete success. Check out all the awesome photos submitted on our Fordham Admissions Instagram account at @fordhamadmissions or at the hashtag #fordham4me. Until next week!

Weekend Update

Happy Monday! The cold front has returned here in the Bronx, but between a Broadway show, a cool restaurant, and a Fordham sporting event, there's still plenty to do to escape the dipping temperatures! Check it out below!

I was able to meet my family in the city to see Jersey Boys for my mom's birthday!

This weekend I went for a Saturday brunch at the Red Rooster, located in the heart of Harlem. The restaurant serves comfort food with a European flair, highlighting the neighborhood's diverse culinary tradition. The restaurant embodies the jazz culture of Harlem, and is a piece of New York history. It is establishments like these that showcase the rich culture that composes NYC.

And lastly, Fordham Men's Basketball matched up against Atlantic 10 opponent La Salle in a game at the Rose Hill Gym this past Saturday. Senior students that participate in the Cheerleading squad, Pep Band, and Fordham sports fan club, the Fordham Fanatics, were recognized before the game. The competition was stiff and the score remained close throughout the game's entirety, but La Salle scored with a buzzer-beating layup and the Rams suffered a heartbreaking loss of 64-62. Although the outcome was disappointing, it was an overall great showing for the Rams, with much of the school packing the stands in support!

Seniors being recognized before the game!
