Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

I'm sure that many of you have noticed that October is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fordham also participates in this annual international health campaign to increase awareness and raise funds. As a member of the Accounting Society Beta Alpha Psi, I am required to do a certain amount of hours of community service each semester. In order to support the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Beta Alpha Psi organized a group to participate in the annual Breast Cancer Walk in Central Park as a community service event.
Our group was sponsored by Ernst & Young, one of the Big Four Accounting Firms. We met at 7 a.m. at a cafe on the Upper West Side with some Ernst & Young employees to enjoy some breakfast before starting the walk at 8 a.m. The atmosphere in Central Park was great. The weather was beautiful, and there were so many enthusiastic people - even at 8 a.m. on a Sunday morning - participating in the walk, as well as cheering for the walkers.
The event was a great experience. It did not only enable us to give back to the community by raising funds, but also gave us the opportunity to socialize with our friends, and network with potential employers.
