The Observer - Lincoln Center's Student Voice

The Observer is the Lincoln Center campus’ newspaper, a bi-monthly, award winning publication; its circulation reaches students across the entire university. The Observer features the voices of Fordham LC’s students and represents the vast array of opinions and viewpoints at this eclectic campus. Featuring the sections of a typical newspaper (news, opinions, arts, features, sports photos and literary). The publication is open to any and all students that would like to contribute. There are courses available to take to supplement contribution to the paper, but all students are welcome, and encouraged to contribute.

Observer staff members have interned with basically every major publishing and news company in the city including Fox, NBC, CBS and ABC, not to name drop or anything. Being able to get your name in print as early as your freshman year is something that future employers will look upon very highly. Working with the school paper is not only an impressive addition to your resume, but it also helps to increase organization in all staff members and teaches how to adhere to strict deadlines; all wonderful skills for time management as well as future work skills. The Observer is also a great place to network and form relationships with people outside of your major field or even your personal field. Perhaps while writing for The Observer, one might do a profile on a theology professor or a science professor and develop a relationship that would have never been available otherwise. Observer reporters are sent to cover all sorts of on and off campus events such as sophomore and senior convocations and even the various protests throughout the city. The opportunities for Observer are countless and extremely exciting.

The Observer is always open to contributors whether it is a story idea online or an article you’ve written that you feel would fit in alongside the notable and talented Observer staff. The staff meets every Tuesday at 1PM in our Lowenstein academic building and are always welcoming fresh meat…I mean prospective staff members. The Observer is putting a new emphasis on online content and is looking for staffers that are adept in the things that go along with that online content, such as videos, podcasts, photography, etc.

As an Observer staffer myself, I highly encourage any future LCers to join the staff! Whether or not one is a Communications major with a Journalism concentration, The Observer is a great place to improve writing skills, make great relationships, improve time management and responsibility skills, and not to mention getting yourself published and having a ton of fun! Anyone that is willing to commit a little extra time for a great publication should really consider joining our staff.
