Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Not going home for Thanksgiving break? Live close to the city? If so, you need to attend the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! For the past 87 years it has been the official kick-off for the holiday season. Every year, this parade is seen by 3.5 million people in NYC and 50 million people from the comfort of their own homes. It consists of a seemingly infinite series of floats, bands, balloons, and performances.

To give you an idea of how BIG this event is, look at this spongebob balloon that is in the lineup for the parade next week. He is a as tall as a four story building, as long as seven bicycles, and as wide as seven taxi cabs. For just this one balloon, 90 people are required to handle it.

Balloons are not the only big event at the parade, some performers that you can expect to see at this year's parade are Kelly Pickler, Ariana Grande, Gavin Degraw, and the Goo Goo Dolls, These are only a few of the many celebrities that will be marching and performing in the parade.

My personal favorite parts about the parade every year are the Broadway performances. Shows bring their entire cast or select members and perform a song or medley from their show that is currently on Broadway. The performances are incredible and it is even more impressive that they are done on a street.

So even if you cannot be in the city this Thanksgiving make sure that you tune in at home. It will undoubtedly get you in the holiday spirit! Happy Holidays!
