The New York Botanical Garden

As of this year, access to the New York Botanical Garden is free to all Fordham students regardless of the day of week. In my eyes, this only furthers the idea that Fordham encompasses the best of the both types of college worlds. Now, not only does Fordham have quick access to both the busy city and the peaceful Rose Hill campus, but to one of the most beautiful displays of nature in the world as well. In some ways, it is almost as if the Garden is now a part of the campus.

Located literally just across the street from Fordham’s main entrance, the New York Botanical Garden’s 250 acres complement Fordham’s own beautiful landscaping. Fordham students are able to enter the Garden as early as 6 am, well before their official opening time, providing a breathtaking backdrop to a morning run.

No matter what the season, there is always something exciting at the Botanical Gardens; just a week ago, the world’s heaviest pumpkin was carved in front of visitors. A lifelong Bronx resident, although I’d visited the Garden many times before coming to Fordham, I admittedly had not been to them since. I can guarantee to you that that is sure to change.
