Brandon Stanton, founder of the wildly popular blog Humans of New York, spoke on Thursday night as part of CAB’s Spring Weekend. As Stanton stood at the front of Lombardi field house in front of a massive number of students he charmed the crowd by say, "I feel like I'm leading a pep rally right now, 'Let's go rams!"
Stanton, a former bond trader who took to photography when he lost his job, inspired students to never give up on the things they love. "It takes work," acknowledged Stanton, "but the only thing you can control is how hard you'll work."
Now Stanton's blog has over 12 million followers and his 2013 book made him New York Times bestselling author.

This weekend was Spring Weekend here at Fordham, sponsored by Campus Activities Board (CAB). On Friday night Solidisco, who just played at this year’s Ultra Music Festival, held a free concert for this year’s Spring Weekend DJ performance. The show took place in the parking lot and it was a blast!

This weekend, my friends and I took advantage of the nice weather and spent our last bit of time before finals with our fellow Rams. After the concert on Saturday, the Under the Tent Dance took place on Martyr’s Lawn. This year’s theme was The Last Illusion, and the decorations in the tent were gorgeous.
As quickly as it began, Spring Weekend 2015 has finished here at Rose Hill. This weekend was packed with endless events sponsored and planned by the Campus Activities Board (CAB). All the activities were completely free and welcome to all Fordham students!

On Thursday, we had an inspirational talk by Brandon Stanton, the photographer and mastermind behind the infamous "Humans of New York" blog. In front of a packed gymnasium, he told Fordham students his life story, with everything from his own college experience to becoming interested in photography. It was an amazing presentation and we were blown away by his kindness. The next night, Solidisco, a DJ group, performed in from a packed crowd. Even though it was cold outside, everyone had a great time celebrating the end of the year.
Saturday was the Twenty One Pilots performance on Martyr's Lawn, right in the middle of campus. The performers were so energetic and crowd-surfed over the pit of students. Josh, the drummer, asked us to hold up his drum while he played on top of us. The lead singer also took turns being lifted up over the crowd. It was an experience that truly none of us will ever forget!

After the concert, students dressed up for the annual Under the Tent dance. This year's theme was "The Last Illusion". There was a live band, food and dancing among much else. This spring weekend was one of the best ones yet and continues to be one of the most fun and energetic events on campus!
Spring Weekend is one of the most anticipated events for students at Fordham. It is scheduled for the last weekend before the end of classes, as a final celebration before finals. The programming starts Monday and continues through Sunday. This year’s main events consist of:

Saturday afternoon, there is a big concert on Martyr's lawn. It starts with a student opener and then follows with a band Campus Activities Board hires. This year's band is 21 pilots. My freshman year, we had Grouplove and Andy Grammer and my sophomore year we had Cartel, Cold War Kids, and Melker Project.

Saturday night is the annual RHA (Residence Halls Association) Under the Tent Dance. This year's theme is The Last Illusion; Magic & Mystery. The tradition of the dance is that students wait on line outside McGinley about a week before to purchase tickets for the event. The wait can sometimes be long, but the sun is usually shining, so it gets students excited for the weekend!

With Spring Weekend only a few weeks away, students on
campus are buzzing with excitement about who will perform on Martyr's lawn and
what the "Under the Tent" theme will be. Other students have been preparing for
spring weekend this week by brain storming script ideas, running around campus
with cameras, and staying up late editing.
These students are (most likely) participants in this year’s
Campus MovieFest. While not technically on the weekend (the event occurs the
Wednesday night before Spring Weekend) Campus MovieFest is an annual event students
anticipate and plan for all year. Though their excitement and planning may
start months in advance, the real grunt work is limited to just one week.

Campus MovieFest challenges students to make a movie, with a run time of 5
minutes or less, in just one week. Films include a variety of genres from
Comedy to Drama. Last year included a few high action Matrix-style thrillers as
well as silent films. Students tap into all of their creative outlets sometimes
composing their own scores or special effects.

The competition attracts 500,000 global college student
participants. The Campus MovieFest complies a judge panel comprised of
students, faculty and partners unique to each school. The winners are not
disclosed until they appear on the screen at the event itself. 16 films
premiere and the top 4 films are sent to Hollywood for CMF national
competition.

Fordham has a lot to offer, but some of its most interesting affiliations are outside of campus. This weekend, I went to an event organized through the Concourse Group, a micro finance organization located just outside of Fordham's campus. I currently work for the Concourse Group as a micro finance consultant to small Bronx business owners. This Sunday, I went to a business called Scenyc in the Bronx with my colleagues in order to collaborate with entrepreneurs and to work on a business plan for one of our current clients. Scenyc is an awesome and innovative business incubator, and I'm so excited to continue working there and in Fordham's business incubator!

This past week it has been quite busy at Fordham! One of the exciting points for the end of semester blues however was a part of this week- class selection! I look at this time of year as a way to plan out all of the exciting classes that I can take here at Fordham. Classes are added all the time- an English class pertaining directly to my major was added just this week! Another really awesome end of semester event coming up is Spring Weekend! Spring Weekend is the weekend before finals and is a jam packed (literally, there's a DJ and a band) with fun events from Friday night until Sunday night! It will not be long until we find out who will be our musical guests this year, but we know it will be amazing!

This weekend, I had an incredibly busy weekend. Friday and Saturday night, Expressions Dance Alliance (the dance club I am in) had their spring semester showcase. The show went about an hour and a half, and featured The Satin Dolls, Fordham's incredible women's a cappella group. Overall, it was a huge success and all of our hard work over the semester really paid off! On Sunday, my Global Outreach team had its retreat. Global Outreach is a really popular program at Fordham for cultural immersion and service, and my team's project is traveling to Bethel, Alaska. It was a really great bonding opportunity for my service project community, and I cannot wait to go to Alaska with them!

On Saturday, my friends and I went to Ram's Got Talent, a Fordham talent show sponsored by the Commuter Students Association that was held as part of Commuter Week. The talents varied from beatboxing to singing, and everyone who competed was extremely talented. It was really fun to watch and was a great way to spend a Saturday evening!
In just over two weeks, on April 8, Fordham will begin its seventh round of Campus MovieFest (or CMF), a national student film competition that takes place at colleges around the country. The challenge? Create a short film under five minutes long in just one week.
CMF provides students with all the basic equipment, including a Panasonic HD camera, microphone, tripod, and a Macbook Pro equipped with tools like Adobe Creative Cloud. After a week, CMF collects all of the movies for judging. The top sixteen films will screen on April 22nd--the same week as Spring Weekend--at a red carpet showcase in Keating Auditorium. There will be prizes given away the Fordham showcase, and the top four films go on to the CMF Hollywood Festival to compete for even bigger prizes.
Last April, I entered Campus MovieFest for the first time. My friends and I had little-to-no experience making films, but we decided it'd be a fun project. Our film, Mine, centers around a spoken word artist who performs a poem as a way to gain closure and strength after ending an unhealthy relationship. Even though we knew the production quality wouldn't be perfect, we tried our hardest to portray a realistic, nuanced portrait of domestic violence.

My friends Joe Gallagher (who I'd previously acted with in a play on campus produced by the Mimes and Mummers) and Sarah Davis also joined me onscreen. Sarah and I co-wrote the poem that my character recites in the film while Shannon Morrall produced, Fenizia Maffucci filmed, and Amanda Pell composed the score.
CMF doesn't notify you if your film has been selected for the showcase, so naturally the premieres get a good turnout from both filmmakers and friends. Our team was excited to see Mine show up about halfway through the showcase. I was definitely embarrassed about seeing my face on such a big screen, but I was equally proud of how it turned out, considering our general lack of experience. We also just had a really fun time at the showcase; the final sixteen films were really entertaining and diverse. Some were funny and romantic, others were scary, and some films, like ours, tackled sensitive subject matter. I would've enjoyed the CMF Premiere even if I hadn't competed.
Unfortunately we didn't win Best Drama at Fordham, but that didn't slow us down. All the finalists at each school have the opportunity to submit their film into the CMF National Wildcard round. After facing off with other Fordham films, and subsequently three different films from across the country, Mine officially became a national wildcard winner and got screened at the Hollywood festival!
In an even crazier twist, Upworthy.com found our film sometime during our wildcard campaign and featured it on their website and Facebook. (Here's our Upworthy page!)

We received messages from allies and survivors around the world, on Facebook and on Tumblr. We were beyond happy to hear that so many people identified with the filmand felt more hopeful as a result. Our experience with Campus MovieFest definitely reminded us of the power and importance of storytelling.

Snow days are great – and we had quite a few of them this
year – but I think we can all agree that Fordham’s so ready for spring to get
here. For the past few days, we’ve had consistently warmer weather, which
basically means spring’s right around the corner. And very few things in this
world are as absolutely beautiful as Fordham in the springtime.

When I was visiting colleges, I made sure to visit all of my
top choices during all of the season changes, just to see how different the
atmosphere was between the fall, winter, and spring, and let me tell ya….
Nothing beats spring at Fordham. The campus is truly reawakened and
reinvigorated. I went around and asked some of my friends about some of their
favorite things about Fordham in the springtime; here’s a list of what everyone
can agree on!
1. Sitting on Eddie’s.
2. Eating lunch on Eddie’s.
3. Meeting friends after class on
Eddie’s.
4. Playing Frisbee/football/WHATEVER
on Eddie’s.
5. Tanning on Eddie’s.
6. Eddie’s. (Or Edward’s Parade – the
large grassy area outside Keating. You can’t miss it.)
7. Attending Spring Weekend, the
final weekend of the spring semester before the start of finals. There’s a DJ
on Friday night, a concert on Martyr’s Lawn on Saturday afternoon, the Under
the Tent dance on Saturday evening, and a comedian act on Sunday. Definitely a
memorable weekend each year.

8. Being able to wear skirts and
shorts to class after months of wearing 3 layers of heavy sweaters and still somehow

saying goodbye (for now but not forever) to some of our best friends while
simultaneously saying hello to a new class of freshmen – the newest additions
to our Ramily.

One of my favorite things about living in New York
City is having the opportunity to see endless concerts, shows and performances! My
friends and I try to attend as many concerts in this city as we can. Some of
the most famous stages in the country are in New York, from Webster Hall to
Madison Square Garden. Last week, my friends and I saw Grouplove and Portugal.

Park. The beautiful New York skyline in the background made this concert even more
awesome.
This weekend was the Global Citizen Festival in
Central Park. In order to win free tickets, you had to help raise awareness for
extreme poverty around the world on the Global Citizen website. A lot of my
friends won these free tickets and got to attend the festival, which was
amazing! Performers such as No Doubt, Fun., Carrie Underwood and The Roots were
featured live at the festival. Jay-Z headlined, and Beyonce also made a surprise appearance! According to my friends, the experience of singing along to “Empire
State of Mind” with Jay-Z in the middle of Central Park was unmatched.

New York is one of the music capitals of the world,
and it is often one of the highlights of the performer’s tour. Other performers
my friends have seen include Kanye West, Young the Giant, Vampire Weekend and
Kodaline. A performer always comes to Fordham’s annual Spring
Weekend in April. Last year, Cold War Kids and Cartel performed along with DJ
Enferno. Other performers that have been featured in previous years include Grouplove,
MGMT, Third Eye Blind and Andy Grammar.
There’s always an awesome concert to see in New York
City, which is one of the countless benefits of living here!
Fordham is a school where everyone can find something for
them. By now, you probably know we are located in NYC, so there is a plethora of
musical options for every taste in the city. However, there is also a wealth of
choices to indulge in your musical side on campus.

Every year, there are musical events galore that feature a
wide variety of genres and performers. Last Friday night was the “Welcome Back”
Club Lib rave/dance on the lawn in front of the library, and Spring Weekend’s
musical acts, which often include a student DJ battle and a featured performer
(last year, Cartel and Cold War Kids; once upon a time, U2), herald May’s final
exams. There are a variety of choirs who sing a wide range of liturgical and classical music, a jazz ensemble, and a bunch of a cappella groups. (Here are the B-Sides, one co-ed a cappella group, covering Bastille's "Pompeii" for your enjoyment.)
Today, Titus Andronicus (a punk/indie band named after one
of Shakespeare’s more gruesome plays) held a free concert behind Rodrigue’sCoffeehouse, a small student-run coffee house and NY Historical Landmark. Rod’s often sponsors student
open mic nights concerts and other entertainment events around campus.

Hello everyone! Happy Monday! Fordham is back to a normal Monday, but this past weekend - and April in general - is an exciting time of the year jam packed with events, such as Latin Gala, Global Outreach Gala, and Spring Weekend (just to mention a few)! I went to Fordham's Latin Gala event on April 4th. It was so much fun, dancing to salsa, meringue, and bachata all night long with my friends. I love all the cultural events at Fordham.

I know almost every Fordham student, like myself, has been yearning for the long awaited spring that we felt was never going to make an appearance. However, as the temperatures begin to raise and the winter coats begin to disappear it seems that spring has sprung here in New York! One of the tell tale signs that the weather is nice here at Fordham is when you see Edwards Parade, the large grassy area in front of Keating Hall, filled with students soaking up the sun! Students can just lay out, do some homework, or take part in the multiple frisbee or soccer games going on around you.

Spending time on Eddies is not the only thing that Fordham students love to do once warm weather approaches. If you are looking for a change of scenery one very easy option is to cross the street and wander in to the New York Botanical Garden. All Fordham students are admitted free of charge to the gardens so no need to worry about what toll it may take on your wallet! Here you can go for a run, walk, or just hang out and get some studying done while enjoying the amazing surroundings. After you can take a walk down Arthur Avenue with your friends and enjoy a delicious meal or some gelato!
Spring semester is my personal favorite here at Fordham, especially when the weather gets nice, because everyone is constantly outside and there are so many fun things to do! The spring semester includes the long-awaited Spring Weekend including fun events, such as concerts, dances, and speakers! All in all this warmer weather only means great things to come as the semester begins to wind down and I cannot wait to take full advantage of all Fordham's unbeatable location has to offer!
